How Much Downtime Does RF Microneedling Take?

What the first two days usually look like

RF microneedling downtime is mostly social, not medical leave. With VybeRF at Skin Lab in Falls Church, the common story is redness and a tight, warm feeling for about 24 to 48 hours, a lot like a solid sunburn. Mild swelling can show up, especially if we treated the lower face or a thinner area of skin. Most people go back to ordinary plans the next day. A few look flushed longer.

That window is why we ask what is on your calendar before we book. A dinner the same night is usually a mistake. A normal workday the next day is often fine if you are comfortable being a little pink on camera. If you bruise easily, or if we are treating a delicate spot, give yourself a wider margin than the average.

Numbing cream is part of the visit, so the treatment itself is more pressure and heat than a sharp pain for most people. The gold-coated needles and the radiofrequency are doing two jobs at once: a controlled micro-injury at the surface and heat deeper in the skin. You will not see the collagen work in the mirror that afternoon. You will see the redness.

Makeup, sweat, and the rest of the week

Makeup timing is a question we answer for your skin, not from a blanket rule on the internet. Many people put makeup on the next day once the skin is closed and calm enough. If you are still oozy, hot, or textured, wait. Mineral sunscreen and a plain moisturizer matter more than coverage. Skip retinoids, acids, and anything gritty until we clear them.

Workouts that drench you, saunas, and hot yoga can wait a few days. Heat and sweat on freshly needled skin is how a simple recovery turns blotchy. A walk is different from a long run. If you are not sure where your workout lands, ask before you leave the room.

Tiny scabbing or a sandpaper feel can show up as the skin turns over. Do not pick. Do not book a facial, a peel, or a wax on top of the same week. Sun is the other easy way to stain a healing face. A hat and sunscreen are part of the result, not an optional extra.

People who drive in from Arlington, McLean, Vienna, Tysons Corner, and Alexandria sometimes want to stack errands the same day. Plan the drive home, not a full afternoon of meetings with no way to rinse your skin. The studio is in Falls Church, at 1140 W Broad Street, and the recovery advice is given before you walk out.

When the skin actually changes

Downtime and results are different clocks. The pinkness fades in days. The reason to do VybeRF is collagen remodeling, and that shows up over weeks to a few months. Texture, crease, and firmness do not flip overnight. If someone promises a new jawline by the weekend, they are talking about swelling, not collagen.

A series is often part of the conversation, commonly discussed as a few sessions rather than a single pass. How many, and how far apart, depends on skin thickness, the concern, and how you healed last time. We will not lock a number into an article. We will look at you.

VybeRF is the radiofrequency microneedling device we use, from Cartessa. It is not the same visit as precision Dr. Pen microneedling, which does not add that radiofrequency heat. If your main question is fine texture and you want a different level of downtime, say that. If your main question is laxity along the jaw or cheeks, RF is usually the conversation. Mixing the names up is how people book the wrong hour.

Acne scars, pores, and crepe are not erased on a schedule. Some skin responds in a way you can photograph. Some skin gets a quieter improvement that you notice in makeup and in photos before you notice it in the bathroom mirror. We would rather tell you the modest version at the consult than edit your expectations later.

How to plan the appointment

Come with a clean face if you can. Tell us about isotretinoin, recent peels, active breakouts, cold sores, and anything you use nightly that makes you flake. Those details change whether we treat today. A physician-led practice means the plan can be no, not only yes. Dr. Patricia Ladisa-Gonzalez leads Skin Lab Med Spa.

The visit itself often runs about 60 to 90 minutes once numbing is included, depending on the area. You will not want to apply a full face of makeup in the car. Bring a hat if the sun is strong on Broad Street when you leave.

Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, and Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. We are closed Sunday and Monday. If you are trying to be camera-ready for a specific Friday, do not book the treatment on Thursday and hope. Call 703-488-7546, tell us the date that matters, and we will put the downtime on the right side of it.

If redness is worsening after the second day, if you see pus, or if pain is climbing instead of fading, call the studio. Ordinary pinkness that slowly calms is expected. A recovery that changes direction is a phone call, not a wait-and-see pulled from a comment section.

Questions patients ask

Can I work the day after VybeRF?

Most people do. Expect to look flushed, as if you got too much sun. If your job is on camera or you have an event, leave more than one night between treatment and that day.

When can I wear makeup?

Often the next day, once the skin is calm and intact. If you are still open, hot, or sandpaper-rough, wait and use the plain products we send you home with.

Is RF microneedling the same as Dr. Pen?

No. VybeRF adds radiofrequency heat to microneedling and is the visit we use when firmness is part of the goal. Dr. Pen precision microneedling is a separate treatment. The consult picks one.
